Faculty bids farewell to three eminent PGI Professors
PGI Faculty bid farewell to three eminent Heads of Departments who superannuated recently. Prof Subhash Verma, Director PGIMER presided over a function to honour Prof Surjit Singh, Prof Mukt Minz and Prof Pratibha Singhi on their superannuation at Lecture Theatre-I today. Many heads of the departments, former directors and professors were present. Professor Ajit Avasthi, Head Department of Psychiatry PGIMER conducted the function.
Dr. Surjit Singh - Dr. Surjit Singh has been Senior Professor, Department of Internal Medicine, PGIMER, Chandigarh till 30th Sept 2016. He did his MBBS from Panjab University, Chandigarh in 1973 and MD from, PGIMER, Chandigarh in 1976. He worked as Lecturer & Consultant at PGIMER, Chandigarh and rose to the level of Professor on 1st July 2000. He did WHO Fellowship in Clinical toxicology in 1993 from Royal Victoria infirmary, Northern Regional Drugs & therapeutic Centre and Freeman Hospital, United Kingdom. He worked on various aspects of clinical toxicology, patterns of poisoning and esterases especially paraoxonase activity. He has got 163 National and International Publications and 18 chapters in specialty text books to his credit. He is also reviewer for number of journals and Executive member of APAMT. He got Outstanding Refree Award by Journal of Association of Physcians of India in 2002 and 2011. He was sectional editor of API textbook of Medicine in 2003 and 2007. He is currently International editor of TOXINZ, Editorial member INTOX (WHO), Member of national advisory board of Journal of Association of Physicians of India, Member of WHO panel for management of poisoning and Member of Editorial Board of International Journal of Medical Toxicology and Forensic Medicine since 2011. He is also Life member of Association of Physcians of India, Life member of Asia Pacific Association of Medical Toxicology and Executive member of APAMT.
Prof Mukut Minz – Prof Mukut Minz has been Senior Prof. & Head Department of Renal Transplant Surgery PGIMER Chandigarh till July 2016. He was appointed Asst Prof in Transplant Surgery in 1986 and rose to become Professor & Head in 1999 and Senior Professor in 2008. He also served as member of Governing Body of PGI. He also received advanced training in multi organ transplantation in various reputed centers in Norway, Germany and USA and used the expertise gained to advance transplantation in the country. He rendered yeoman service in nurturing the transplant program in the institute into one of the largest transplant programs in a government institute in India. He created the department of Renal Transplant Surgery in 2005, one of its kind in the country at PGIMER and performed over 3300 kidney transplantations during his tenure. He has trained over 30 transplant surgeons and his students now lead active transplant programs in India as well as overseas i.e. UK, USA and Australia. He expanded the deceased donor transplant program in the institute and also established a successful pancreas transplant program at PGI, which is one of the pioneering centers in India. For his contribution to the field of transplantation, he was awarded the Odisha Gourav Samman in 2014. Dr Minz has published over150 research papers in leading national as well as international Journals of repute. He remained Vice President of the Indian Society of Organ Transplantation for 2012-2014.
Dr. Pratibha Singhi - Dr. Pratibha Singhi has been Senior Professor and Head, Department of Pediatrics, Advanced Pediatrics Center, PGIMER, Chandigarh till 30th Sept 2016. She did her MBBS from JLN medical college Ajmer and MD from AIIMS, New Delhi in 1978. She worked as Lecturer & Consultant at the JLN Medical College, Ajmer (Rajasthan) and then at the University of the West Indies, Kingston, Jamaica before joining PGI as lecturer in Dec 1983. She rose to the level of Head of Dept on 1st July 2015. She started the Neurodevelopment Unit in PGI, Chandigarh in 1984. She has also worked as Consultant Pediatric Neurologist at the Great Ormond Street Hospital, London in 2005 and 2008. She received her training in Developmental Pediatrics, Pediatric Neurology and Epilepsy at Johns Hopkins Hospital Baltimore, USA, and at the Kennedy Krieger Institute Baltimore, USA- 1991-1992, and also at The Wolfson Centre, UCL, London, the Royal Victoria Infirmary- Newcastle Upon Tyne, and at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children Edinburgh , UK. She has published 340 papers in international and national journals in the field of Neuro-developmental disorders, epilepsy and CNS infections, and has written 3 books which includes a book on “Seizures and Epilepsy in Children” and the ICNA book on “CNS Infections”. She has conducted several research projects under WHO, ICMR, ICSSR, PGI and prestigious INDO UK collaborative project, INDO-EU Project and the INDO-Swedish Project. She is an Editorial board member, guest editor and reviewer for several international and national journals. Prof Singhi has received numerous international and national Research Awards , some of which include the Asian Research Award. Awarded by the Infantile Seizure Society Japan, First S. Janaki Memorial Oration by the National Academy of Medical Sciences, First PK Mishra Oration by King George Medical University Lucknow, “Medical Scientist Award” by Dr Shurvir Singh Trust, Rajasthan, James Flett Gold Medal (First Prize) of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics. She has also received several International Fellowships such as Rotary International Foundation Graduate Fellowship in Pediatrics in United States of America, Heinz Fellowship of the British Pediatric Association – in U.K., Fellowship, Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health; London etc. She received several gold medals including President of India Medal. She has been working as Honorary Chief Consultant at Prayas – the Rehabilitation Centre for Disabled children, Chandigarh since 1985. Prof Singhi has been an invited speaker/chair person in over 300 international and national conferences and Visiting Professor to several national and international universities.
